Basics
What SGW is (in plain language)
SGW is an access control layer between your tool/adapter and critical ECUs. If the gateway denies the session, reads may be limited and writes may fail even when your file is correct.
Many late-model platforms ship with a Security Gateway (SGW). It doesn’t change what the configuration bytes mean, but it can block write operations unless your diagnostic session is authorized. This page explains what to expect on Dodge Hornet and how to plan a clean workflow with FCA PROXI Tool.
If a write fails, it’s usually one of these. Handle them in this order.
